Jean Carwood Edwards

Senior Education and Early Years Consultant

Jean Carwood Edwards’ career has been dedicated to early years practice and national policy development. She currently holds roles as Early Education Adviser for BBC’s CBeebies series Balamory, Mentor for new CEOs with the Association of Chief Officers of Scottish Voluntary Organisations (ACOSVO), and committee member for the University of Glasgow’s Educational Colloquium. 

From 2013 to 2020, she served as CEO of Early Years Scotland, dedicated to improving outcomes for children and families, working in partnership with communities, government, and local authorities. Subsequently, she was appointed Professional Adviser to the Scottish Government, chairing a taskforce on children’s mental health and wellbeing. She has also contributed to numerous national groups and commissions, shaping early years policy and widening access to education.
